Overview

The biggest and most influential known organization which handles Hapkido martial art all over the world is known as Korea Hapkido Federation. Its members are Korean students and teachers as well as those persons who have training in South Korea. The president of such organization as of the recent is Jong-Yun Kim and the base of it is in Seoul South Korea.

Korea Hapkido Federation

Birth

Originally, Korea Hapkido Federation was named after the hapkido organization which is Daehan Hapkido Hyub Hae, the Republic of Korea Hapkido Federation. It started when Grandmaster Ji who had brought two of his best and most advanced students who are Moo Wong Kim and Jae Nam Myung in the year 1973. From then on, these two masters along with Grandmaster Ji started to create and developed an organization which is the Republic of Korea Hapkido Federation mentioned earlier. Eventually, Grandmaster Ji left the organization and soon after Grandmaster Myung also left.

As Grandmaster Myung made his exit, Grandmaster Ji renamed the organization, Korea Hapkido Association which was also adopted by remaining members of the previous organization. Park, Sung Chul was the president of the said Korea Hapkido Association. There has been long debate process that happened due to this action made and on 1988 there is a new organization which emerged from the previous group Korea Hapkido Association and Republic of Korea Hapkido Federation. When the Korea Hapkido Association has changed its name to Korea Hapkido Federation, Sung Chul Park became the president of this new organization but it for short time only. During this time, there are few students learning Hapkido who had the opportunity to receive Black Belt dan ranking and certificates signed by President himself. Later on, President Park was replaced by Oh, Se Lim. He became the president of such federation not until his retirement on September 1. 2008. As he retired he was then replaced by Kim, Jong Yun.

Presidents

The first president of Korea Hapkido Federation was Oh, Se Lim however since this organization originally emerged from Korea Hapkido Association and Republic of Korea Hapkido Associate there is also a need to recognize the founding president. Ji Han Jae was the founder of Korea Hapkido Association in the year 1965 and the elected president at that time is Park Jong-Kyu. He was then replaced by Kim Woo Joong who is the president of Dan Woo Company. Korea Hapkido turned to power due to the political connection of Kim. Choi Dae-Hoon then became the elected president. When the association changed its name to KHF, See Lim Oh became the president and was later succeeded by Master Jong-Youn Kim. Kim Jong-Youn was master Hapkido instructor for police and has served the police for more than 30 years. He is the student of Master Moo-Hong Kim.

Members

Members of this Korea Hapkido Federation includes Holcombe Thomas, Hal Whalen, Lee Sung, Kwang-Sik, Myung , Jae Nam, Myung , Scott Shaw, Tae-Soo Son, Seol Ryoo Young and others. These members indeed have played great role to the development of KHF.
